Scuba Diving in Costa Rica!

Experience first hand, snorkeling and scuba diving in Costa Rica! Just a few years ago this Central American country was unknown as a destination spot for diving enthusiasts. It is now just being recognized for its abundance of spectacular marine life. The Catalina Islands are host to many species of marine life including the giant manta rays, stingrays, sharks, moray eels, barracudas, sea turtles and a variety of tropical fish that are unique to this area. One of Costa Rica's best scuba diving and snorkeling destinations is found on Cano Island off of the southern Pacific coast. The island is located 20 km offshore from the Osa Peninsula and Drake Bay. It is about a 40 minute boat ride from the mainland. It is common to see manta rays, dolphins, game fish and sharks when diving around the island.
Cano Island (Isla de Caņo) is a government designated marine biological reserve. The island is of considerable geographical and archaeological importance. It was formerly a cemetery or burial ground dating back to the pre-Columbian era. Costa Rica's Caribbean coast does not yet have the diving infrastructure that is readily available along the Pacific Ocean side of the country. There are, however, many excellent areas for Costa Rica scuba diving and snorkeling along the country's southern Caribbean coast. South of the town of Cahuita you can find the largest coastal reef in the country. It is protected within Cahuita National Park. In the town of Cahuita you can rent snorkeling equipment and hire guides to take you out in boats.
The point at Puerto Viejo, south of Cahuita, also has a coral reef wrapped around it that makes it excellent for snorkeling and diving. There is a PADI scuba diving center based in Puerto Viejo. It has complete packages, including PADI scuba diving, accommodations, transportation and adventure tours. The best visibility in the Caribbean is from March to early May and from mid August to mid November. You won't be disappointed by the excellent
