Airfare to Costa Rica!
The airfare to Costa Rica doesn't seem to be affected by the time of year that you travel. The price of airline tickets tends to stay constant through out the year. However, you may have difficulty getting the cheap flights to Costa Rica during the high months due to the larger number of people who will be traveling at that time of year. The busiest months are between December and April. The low months are between May and November.
There are four international airports in Costa Rica. The two most accessible from the United States and Canada are located outside the capitol city of San Jose and in the northern city of Liberia. If you are interested in a
Costa Rica golf vacation,
deep sea fishing, kite surfing or looking for a destination resort we recommend you consider entering Costa Rica through the international airport in Liberia. The initial cost may be higher than flying into San Jose but you can save time waiting for a connecting flight, taking the bus or driving a rental car to your destination. It is a five hour drive from San Jose to the city of Liberia. It is not recommended that you make this drive at night! If you are planning on flying with a local airline from city to city or location to location within Costa Rica, keep in mind there is a baggage weight limit of either 25 or 30 lbs. per passenger depending on who you fly with. You can take just one suitcase and a small carry on with you on the airplane
. In terms of the cost of airfare to Costa Rica, the factor that seems to make the most difference is how far in advance you make your reservations. You would think that the further in advance you make your reservations the better deal you would get on your airline tickets. That is not the case! If you make your airline reservations just six weeks in advance you can save substantially over flights reserved two and a half months in advance. This is especially true on fights from Miami, Florida. There are four primary exit points for travel to Costa Rica; Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles and Toronto. Leaving from LAX in Los Angeles, the cheap flights to Costa Rica are on LACSA. These are "red eye" flights that leave Los Angeles at around 1:30 AM. If you plan carefully you can book a non stop flight that takes only five and a half hours. Costa Rica air travel from Dallas/Ft. Worth to San Jose is only four hours but the tickets are more expensive than flights from Los Angeles or Miami. The best departure times are in the morning for non stop flights. It is only a two hour and forty five minute flight from Miami, Florida to San Jose, Costa Rica. Both American Airlines and LACSA fly non stop to San Jose. Both Canadian and US airlines fly out of Toronto. Many flights out of Canada include at least one stop along the way. From Toronto it is about an eight and a half to nine hour flight to San Jose and an eight hour flight to the city of Liberia. If you are flying out of Toronto, the cost of a ticket to Liberia is only marginally more expensive than the cost of a ticket to San Jose. So if your final destination is in northern Costa Rica or along the beaches of the northern Pacific Coast, you can save a lot of travel time by flying directly into Liberia. You can literally save hundreds of dollars on your airfare to Costa Rica if you carefully plan when you purchase your airline tickets. In some cases, you can save 30% to 50% on your
