Costa Rica Fishing!

There is excellent deep sea fishing on Costa Rica's northern Caribbean Coast as well. You can also find world class snook and tarpon along the rivers and canals found in this part of the country.

Costa Rica fishing vacations can also include visits to active volcanoes, hiking through mountain cloud forests as well as a playing at some of Costa Rica's out standing golf courses. Many of these courses have been designed by world known architects.

The center of Costa Rica's deep sea fishing industry can be found at Flamingo Beach. It is located on the Pacific Ocean along the country's northern coast.

In addition to being one of Costa Rica's finest "playas", Flamingo Beach has the only full-service Pacific Ocean marina between Acapulco, Mexico and the country of Panama.

Costa Rica is known for its abundance of bill fish although tuna, wahoo, roosterfish and snapper can be found off the country's Pacific coast all year around.

At certain times during the year it is not uncommon to hook up to ten bill fish a day. Only the largest are kept and the rest are released.

There is a Pacific Ocean current that runs along the West Coast of South America northward to Costa Rica, it meets the Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica and then turns west out to sea.

This current brings an abundance and great variety of sport game fish to the area. You can find Blue and Black Marlin and the Pacific Sailfish in these waters in large numbers between the end of the year and the month of May.

In addition to deep sea fishing, there are several Costa Rica fly fishing trips to this country's lakes, rivers and streams. You can fish for such exotic species as guapote, machaca, mojarra, bobo, tarpon, snook, tepe and machín.
